Conservatives'' deficit revelations are a wakeup call

by Rudy Scheinost
Yesterday's news was dominated by the revelations from the Conservatives that the UK's deficit is much worse than previously expected.

During the election lots of commentators noted that none of the major parties were addressing the deficit directly and instead preferred to be vague about how they planned to tackle it.

For jobseekers the news means they need to prepare themselves to work even harder to get a job and consider exactly where is the best place to work.

The public sector has been a great place to find secure employment over the last 30 years, but now with spending cuts planned for the area, it could be better for jobseekers to look toward the private sector for employment.

As David Cameron's coalition government tries to deal with the deficit jobseekers need to consider industries which are doing well in the recession as possible employers.

Manufacturing is one such area, with impressive exports driving demand for workers. It might not seem as secure as a job in the public sector but with huge cuts planned it could be the ideal place for workers to avoid collateral damage.
