The government's green stance should help jobseekers in the construction industry. As the retrofitting of Britain's properties begins there will be an increased need for staff to complete the work.
This view is shared by experts who believe that although some industries may still be struggling with public sector cuts, green construction will continue to flourish.
Brian Berry, director of external affairs at the Federation of Master Builders, said that retrofitting looks set to become an area where more opportunities will be available for jobseekers.
"Where we are likely to see increased employment opportunities is in retrofitting. The new government is committed to actually encouraging a green [agenda] and making our existing homes more energy efficient," he said.
Mr Berry added that entrepreneurial construction companies are taking advantage of the government support for green retrofitting and have stolen a march on their competitors by taking on new staff and getting to work.
