Administration Assistant - History Of The Profession

The role of the Administrative Assistant was previously seen as a role for women in the workplace.

This came about after the First World War where over 500,000 women were employed in administrative roles within the Commerce sector.

Male employers felt that women due to a lack of tertiary education and experience could not be trusted with the same responsibility placed upon them as their male counterparts and thus career progression was stunted for most women.

In today’s modern times women and men are both employed in administrative roles as it provides an excellent opportunity for graduates to gain experience in a wide variety of tasks.

Both men and women have equal opportunity to progress in their chosen fields from administrative roles to managerial ones based on training and professional qualifications.

Receptionist
Secretary
