Graphic Designer Job Description


Graphic designers produce visually orientated communications for their clients through various mediums including but not limited to: websites, books, magazines, advertisements, bill boards, product and service packaging and typically work very closely with marketing, IT and advertising departments.

 

Typically  graphic designers generally work to their clients' brand identity and requirements, starting with brief as supplied by the client. Being creative, it is up the graphic designer to create ideas and concepts and recommend the best mediums for the client to go down. 

 

To be a good graphic designer you need to be extremely creative and have a strong IT bias and inclined to keep up-to-date in an ever changing and exciting industry.

 

Your Functions May include


Typical work activities include:

  • meeting clients to discuss the marketing and advertising objectives and understand the requirements of the business and project, and therefrom formulate concepts to meet these needs
  • developing design briefs based on above and apply skills to come up with the best concepts for the client, being innovative yet mindful of budget cost constaints
  • presentation: to client of concepts and ideas 
  • working with a wide range of media, including photography and computer-aided design (CAD)
  • contributing ideas and design artwork to the overall brief
  • Drawing: demonstrate ideas through sketching and drawings
  • keeping abreast of emerging technologies in new media, particularly design programmes
  • working as part of a team with Art Directors, Printers, Copywriters, Photographers, other Designers, Account Executives, Web Developers and Marketing Specialists

Graphic designers can work either as freelance or be employed within a large Advertising Agencies, though their remit and skill requirements remain the same.
