The job of a Paraplanner involves providing vital support to the Financial Planners which includes researching products and different types of funds, preparing letters, reports and technical papers.You will also be expected to act as the technical interface between the consultants and the clients.
A Paraplanner requires, the ability to work independently and as part of a team. You would be responsible for providing a professional and holistic financial service not only to the Financial Planners, but also to the clients. As a Paraplanner you would need to provide investment advice on Hedge Funds, VCTs, EIS’s, Film Partnerships, Offshore tax and Investment Portfolios.
Paraplanner Functions May include
As a Paraplanner you may be expected to carry out research and create financial investment reports for the Financial Planner to give to the client. Most of the work is office-based and the work can be very pressurised. As a Paraplanner it is your job to provide the backup to enable Financial Advisors to concentrate on fact-finding, client review and relationship management.
You may also be expected to handle day-to-day details like call answering, talking to clients, attending product update meetings as well as getting information and quotes together for clients. You are not however, allowed to give financial advice to a client without the proper qualifications and accreditation.
All information passed to a Financial Advisor must meet the FSA guidelines. As a Paraplanner you could also work with Accounting Technicians, Finance Clerks, Administrative Assistants, Insurance Brokers, Insurance Technicians and Pensions’ Administrators.
