Restaurant Manager Job Description

As a Restaurant Manager you would be responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction so that people will return to your eating establishment on a regular basis.  You would be the primary port of call for customers and vendors when it comes to complaints concerning food quality, customer service or maintenance.


As a Restaurant Manager, you could work in hotels, small independent restaurants, franchise eateries, and fast-food outlets. You would be front of house, welcoming customers to the restaurant and showing them to their table.

Your Functions May include


As Restaurant Manager you would carry out a significant number of duties and obligations such as helping in the recruitment and ongoing assessment of the staff.  You may also be expected to introduce new ideas that will keep restaurant patrons interested in coming to your eating establishment.  You will also look at competing restaurants and give recommendations to the owners of the establishment accordingly.

There are also administrative duties associated with being a Restaurant Manager.  Your employees need to be scheduled to make sure the restaurant has enough staff members available at peak times. It is also your responsibility to schedule breaks and holidays in order to avoid paying overtime wages or under-scheduling good employees. 

While much of what a Restaurant Manager does is behind the scenes, you may be called upon to perform the duties of absent or dismissed employees. This means that you will needs to have an understanding of each station of the business and demonstrate a level of competence at all of them.

You may also be expected to conduct inventories of current supplies and calculate the next food and supply orders accordingly.  As a Restaurant Manager you will also be proficient in OSHA Regulations and Health Department requirements:  ensuring that proper maintenance, cleanliness and safety standards are upheld.
