Supermarket giant Asda is set to create some 3,500
retail jobs in Scotland over the coming three years as part of a £260 million investment plan.
The chain is opening a store in Glenrothes next week and hopes to follow this with new outlets in Inverness, Dundee, Larkhall and East Kilbride.
It received 7,000 applicants for the 400 jobs being created at the Glenrothes store.
Andy Clarke, chief operating officer of Asda, said: "We are pleased to be able to create employment opportunities in the retail sector during these difficult economic times as well as supporting hundreds of construction jobs across the country as part of our new store development programme."
Another supermarket chain has also announced plans to boost Scottish jobs, with Sainsbury's creating 57
retail jobs at its new store in Newton Stewart, reports the Galloway Gazette.
Manager Steve Pollock told the news provider that ten positions will encompass every part of the store.
