A new Asda planned for a Cumbrian town will create 350 temporary and permanent retail jobs.
The 38,000 sq ft store will be built in Dunmail Park shopping centre in Workington. Smaller shops, which currently operate in the specific location, will need to relocate.
The petrol station in Workington will also be taken over by Asda.
According to BBC News, Asda’s Property Communications Manager Philip Bartram, said: “We are excited to be opening our first store in Workington and we're looking forward to meeting our new customers later this year.”
Bartram also commented on the jobs that will be created: “Our plans will create up to 350 new full and part time jobs in the local community and Asda will set up a local employment partnership targeting local job seekers.”
Bill Dixon, Dunmail Park shopping centre’s director is happy about the retailer’s venture to Workington. He commented that an Asda in Dunmail Park will boost the centre’s image and increase customers to the area.
“The world's largest retail group is showing its confidence in West Cumbria by making this major investment,” he added.
