Automotive jobs at BMW can benefit from the company’s marketing tactic to be a tier-one sponsor of the 2012 London Olympic Games.
BMW was chosen over Ford and Nissan and will join British Airways, Lloyds TSB, Adidas and EDF Energy as tier-one sponsors of the event.
The company plans to boost their fuel efficient cars and will provide athletes and London 2012 staff with Minis and BMW bicycles.
Although BMW will showcase their hybrid engine at the Olympic Park, the 4,000 vehicles they will supply for the event will be standard engines.
This comes as a surprise to many because the event is being marketed as a “green” Games.
Ian Robertson, BMW group sales and marketing director commented to Marketing Magazine: “Sustainability is a central pillar of our business and guides all aspects of our operations.”
Robertson added: “This has lead to our being named by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index as the most sustainable automotive company, for the fifth year in a row. Therefore we have a natural affinity with London 2012 and its commitment to low carbon and healthy living.”
Marketing jobs affiliated with the Olympic Games will also receive an enhancement from having BMW as part of the event.
