B&Q pledges to create and try to save UK jobs

One of the UK's largest home improvement retailers has pledged to try and save retail jobs and create new roles as it undergoes a shakeup of its distrubution operations.
B&Q announced that it would be creating 550 UK jobs when it opens its £77 million Swindon-based distribution centre, with a further 250 roles being offered at a site in Worksop.
There have been fears about redundancies at the chain's existing distribution centres, however a company spokesperson said it would try to keep these to a minimum.
"B&Q will continue to work closely with its third party partners to ensure thorough consultation is completed with proper and fair arrangements made for all affected employees along with every option explored for minimising redundancies," he stated.
The Yorkshire Post recently reported on the Catalyst centre, which will be based on the University of York campus and is due to open in November, creating UK jobs and space for entrepreneurs to develop their ideas.
