Berkshire jobs could soon increase with the building of two developments in the county, one being a Tesco store in Reading and the other a science park in Shinfield.
According to the Reading Chronicle, a Tesco Express is planned for the former Blockbuster store in Broad Street Mall.
Although the store is a fantastic opportunity for new jobs in the area, it creates a problem for small businesses.
The store will be the 11th Tesco in town and could affect fair competition in Reading.
A spokeswoman, Melanie Chriswell commented: “The store is aimed at those people living and working within a very small radius where you can walk to work. It enables people to top up their shopping rather than driving to a supermarket.”
Less controversial news that will also boost jobs in Berkshire is the approval of the University of Reading’s science and innovation park in Shinfield.
Professor Gordon Marshall, the university's vice chancellor, told the BBC News: “The University of Reading contributes, at a conservative estimate, over £600m to the regional economy every year.
“The new science and innovation park will ensure that impact continues to grow and delivers tangible benefits to the local and regional economy.”
