Berkshire jobs with Newbury Racecource development

Berkshire jobs will benefit from the Western Area Planning Committee of West Berkshire Council’s decision to award outline planning consent to the Newbury Racecourse’s regeneration plans.

Around 1,500 new homes, a 120-bedroom hotel, a restaurant, coffee shop and a refurbishment of the current facilities at the racecourse are part of the £300m scheme.

According to the BBC News, the recession has affected the racecourse badly with pre-tax losses in 2008 of £96,000.

The project is part of a partnership between the racecourse, builders Barratt Developments and David Wilson Homes.

The new development will provide the venue with new character and revenue and also create new jobs for the community.

Sarah Hordern, managing director of property development and finance at Newbury Racecourse, commented: “The regeneration of the site will also provide us with the opportunity to increase our contribution to the community and economy in the Newbury area and is expected to create around 300 jobs.”

Last year the regeneration scheme at Newbury Racecourse received a lot of judgement.

According to Newbury News, concerns included a lack of “an appropriate vision to turn the potential of the site into a reality”.

The application for the development will be referred to the Government Office for the south-east.

Hopefully, the project’s vision is clear enough now.
