Berkshire jobs in retail, construction and catering could increase if the plan to transform the area around Reading Station receives the green light.
According to Get Reading, the Reading Station Area Framework was recently opened to the public for consultation.
The framework includes 2,500 new homes, 200,000 sq m office space and plenty of retail and leisure room.
The development will also include a £500 million revamp of Station Hill as well as numerous spacious open areas and pedestrian links.
Reading Borough Council’s Alison Bell, who is the head of planning, portrayed the development as a chance to enhance the town’s key area.
Bell told the newspaper: “The upgrade of the station is essential, but you can’t have this modernisation without the capacity to deal with it.
“The piazzas to the north and the south are the golden threads. The importance of public realm is at the heart of this document.
“We’ve been working on this for 10 years. It sets out our principles for future development.”
The Reading Station Area Framework offers many positive opportunities that include the creation of multiple jobs.
However, some concerns have been uttered about the possibility of skyscrapers to the north of the station and the additional traffic.
Pat Baxter, head of transport is tackling the traffic issues through making bus travel more reachable to all.
