The success of the car scrappage scheme, where consumers receive cash incentives to scrap their old vehicle, has led to it being extended by the government in a move which could be great news for
automotive jobs.
Labour said that after listening to the industry it has decided to extend the scheme until February 2010, with 400,000 vehicles being involved in the project.
Business secretary Lord Mandelson said: "With the new terms, the government's scrappage scheme makes it accessible to even more consumers, but it has to end when the funding runs out."
He added that consumers and businesses looking for a new vehicle should make the most of the scrappage scheme while it exists.
The government has pumped an extra £100 million into the extended initiative and that brings the total spend on the project up to £400 million.

automotive jobs were boosted recently when Nissan decided to create another 150 roles at its plant in Sunderland.
