Young people looking to get into gardening work and
alternative energy jobs are helping to improve their prospects and their local environment, according to one expert.
A spokesperson for Green Alliance said that the government's plans to introduce more green apprenticeships should be encouraged and will help the nearly one million unemployed youngsters in the country.
She said: "Young people [could] gain valuable skills in an area which is likely to expand in future, improve the housing stock, tackle fuel poverty in deprived areas and reduce carbon emissions. It helps meet multiple policy objectives."
Other areas she said young people could be employed in is the retro-fitting of energy-efficient home improvements into the UK's current housing stock.
Energy minister Ed Miliband recently said that conversion to clean energy would create thousands of
engineering and manufacturing jobs, and bring around £4 billion a year into the UK economy.
