A £80 million waterfront scheme set for Lymington which will boost Hampshire jobs, could also include a hotel.
Developers, Redrow Homes have already gained planning permission to construct 300 homes and an 87-bedroom care home on a former chicken factory site.
According to the Southern Daily Echo, the company has recently submitted an application to build a 100-bedroom hotel on the property.
A spokesperson for Redrow told the newspaper: “Our current application follows ongoing talks with the council regarding opportunities to enhance the scheme and redevelop the site as early as possible.”
The seven-acre site overlooking the Lymington River has been vacant for nine years in which time former owners, Paxton Holdings initially planned a hotel and 300 homes.
Afterwards Paxton decided to transform the area into a 60-bedroom care home for the elderly instead.
The newest plans from Redrow could make up for the 500 jobs lost through the Webbs chicken factory closure.
Jenny Welker, president of Lymington Chamber of Commerce is concerned that the hotel will create an influx of traffic.
Meanwhile the Lymington Society is excited about the venture because it could be used as a venue to hold weddings and conferences too.
