New Hampshire jobs will be created through a scheme which will see parts of Southampton transformed into housing.
The first part of the redevelopment in the city will take place in Thornhill.
Current shops and apartments in the Hinkler Parade area will be replaced with a £15 million development that includes 106 homes, five shops and a brand new community centre.
Construction workers will demolish 17 shops and nearly 40 apartments to build the new housing.
According to BBC News, £50m will be invested at four other sites and 300 homes will be built within the next year.
One of these developments includes flattening derelict garages in Thornhill and replacing them with 10 new homes.
Councillor Phil Williams, cabinet member for housing and local services, commented on the scheme to the news source and said: “The council has worked very hard to get to this point and this has been made possible because of the help and financial support from Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), Partnership Urban South Hampshire (PUSH) and Thornhill Plus You, and with the support of our contractors Barratt Homes and First Wessex.”
The regeneration of Southampton will create many temporary and permanent jobs in the city and boost the economy in the long run.
