A new Automotive Council has been created in an attempt to improve automotive jobs and assist with long-term challenges.
The council, which is made up out of government and industry representatives will have their first meeting before the end of the year. This meeting will be chaired by Business Secretary, Peter Mandelson and former Ford chief, Richard Parry-Jones.
According to Car Dealer Magazine, the council is proof of the government’s assistance to the automotive industry in order to fuel economic growth.
The council’s aims include taking action from the NAIGT report, developing technology road maps, encouraging strong supply chain and directing strategic goals.
According to the magazine, Lord Mandelson said: “The Automotive Council will be an opportunity for Government and industry to work together on the long term strategic development of the sector.”
Richard Parry-Jones added: “The UK must raise its game to compete for international investment in automotive R&D and manufacturing.
“To do that, the UK’s car manufacturers need an ever more strategic, collaborative relationship with the Government and to be working with the supply chain and other stakeholders to achieve long term goals.
“I want the Council to make that happen.”
The Automotive Council is part of the government’s endeavors to actively improve the manufacturing sector and encouraging low-carbon jobs.
