One of the country's most successful low-cost airlines has pledged to create 150 UK jobs at its base in the East Midlands Airport, after it announced new routes which will launch next year.
Jet2 is the company behind the plans which will see flights go from East Midlands Airport to Alicante in Spain; Bodrum in Turkey; Palma in Majorca; Faro in Portugal; and Rhodes in Greece.
Steve Heapy, managing director at the airline's sister company Jet2holidays.com, said that the move is a big opportunity for the area and he believes creating 150 jobs in the current climate is a very positive thing.
"We are very confident in the East Midlands. It has got a big catchment area of several millions of people and we think there is a big demand for the destinations we offer, and we want to fill that demand," he stated.
Jet2 was recently troubled by the flight restrictions imposed after the eruption of the Icelandic volcano and setup a centre at Leeds/Bradford Airport to deal with issues.
