UK jobs have been given a helping hand by the government through its numeracy and literacy programme, according to the business secretary Lord Mandelson.
Labour claim around 2.8 million people have been given assistance when trying to improve their skills and Lord Mandelson said in the current economic climate it is more important than ever to be up to scratch.
"We must continue to help people grasp opportunities over the coming years so that the many, and not just the few, can benefit from the opportunities that growth will bring," he said.
Skills minister Kevin Brennan said that the programmes have helped people to turn their lives around and do things that many of us take for granted such as read children a bedtime story.
Kevin Brennan recently launched a National Skills Academy for Social Care which will give people looking for
health jobs the chance to train before going into roles.
