Marketing jobs: Orange invests in a £4m iPhone campaign

Marketing jobs at Orange could get a massive boost from a £4m outdoor campaign for the Apple iPhone 3G.

The company will start selling the new sought-after phone from 10 November. The advertising campaign which will be displayed in train stations, airports, shopping malls and on busses will run until middle December.

Spencer McHugh, brand director at Orange UK told Marketing Week: “This campaign was devised to have a fresh and fun appeal to ensure that people see different versions of the adverts wherever they go, keeping the campaign new and intriguing.”

During the past two years, O2 was the only mobile network with sole rights to sell iPhones in the UK. According to The Independent, O2 has sold one million iPhone 3G handsets to date.

British consumers will have to wait for competitive prices on the handset as Orange and O2 will be the only suppliers until next June.

Will Draper, an analyst at Execution told the newspaper: “France Telecom will keep prices high in the run-up to Christmas to ensure they capture premium subscribers who were starved of the iPhone but were loyal to Orange.

“When Vodafone joins the market the gloves will come off.”

Draper also commented that O2 might loose some of its customers to Orange seeing as they haven’t done much to keep up with iPhone usage.

Orange believes that they could sell up to one million handsets before Christmas, which will be great news for jobs at the company if this happens.
