Milk and More development to boost Dairy Crest retail jobs

SUBMITTED DATE: 11/11/09

Retail jobs can soon benefit from Dairy Crest’s venture to increase their Milk&More customers through additional products.

The Milk&More service has been delivering milk to customers’ doors but will now also offer bread, cheese, eggs, bacon, sausages as well as vegetables.

According to Retail Week, 120,000 customers make use of the service but Dairy Crest would like to increase its numbers to 250,000 by next March.

Mark Allen, Dairy Crest chief executive commented to the retail news provider: “Our customers have been very enthusiastic about Milk&More. We already had the delivery vans and are now just adding a few distress purchases to that delivery which offer our customers convenience.”

Dairy Crest, the owners of brands such as Clover and Countrylife said that they aren’t trying to compete with supermarkets. They are offering “distress items” and sell them at more or less the same price as convenience stores.

“The milk doorstep business has been in decline for some time and now represents less than 10% of the total, so our scheme could help stem this decline,” Allen added.

If the company can successfully more than double their customer numbers, new jobs could be created.

Milk&More clients can make online orders until 9pm in the evening to gain from the free delivery service.
