Murata could create new Manchester jobs

SUBMITTED DATE: 21/08/09
Manchester jobs could be bolstered by a research partnership which technology experts hope will lead to new opportunities created in the area.

Japanese computer component company, Murata Manufacturing, is sending one of its top researchers to Manchester University in an attempt to further the group's understanding of nanotechnology.

The Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) has worked closely with Murata since 2007 and the agency's director hopes the collaboration will be the first of many.

Mark Hughes, NWDA executive director of economic development, said: "The agency has been working closely with Murata for some time to secure this for the region and I am pleased that work has now begun on the project, which may lead to further investment by Murata in future."

The NWDA has recently been involved in £650,000 worth of funds which have been given to businesses across the north-west and could help to boost Manchester jobs.
