A new £40 million manufacturing technology centre (MTC), which will be dedicated to people in
manufacturing jobs, has been given the all clear by the government which said the centre is going to help continue the UK's tradition of being at the forefront of the industry.
Business minister Pat McFadden said that the new MTC, which will be based in Ansty Park in the Midlands, is the first in a series of planned facilities that will offer support to businesses and universities.
He said: "Britain has a great manufacturing future, not just a great manufacturing past. We are the sixth largest manufacturing economy globally. But the face of manufacturing here is changing and we need to embrace and support the numerous opportunities created as a result."
The government has also recently given a boost to
alternative energy jobs in the UK by making £22 million of funding available to companies which are developing marine power.
