As the UK adapts to lower carbon dependency more green and
alternative energy jobs could be created, according to one prominent union leader.
Brendan Barber, general secretary of the TUC, said that bodies like the new Forum for a Just Transition, which is meant to ensure that the whole of the UK shares the challenges of moving to a low-carbon economy.
"This is excellent news. By working together on how we create a low-carbon economy, we can both create millions of new green jobs and build a better balanced economy less dependent on finance," he stated.
The union man added that the bigger changes that the UK needs to face up to in order to become carbon neutral will be difficult and therefore planning for them is vital.
Vladimir Spidla, the European Union social affairs commissioner, recently told the Guardian that creating alternative energy jobs is important as Europe recovers from the economic downturn.
