New Axon hybrid to improve UK automotive jobs

Automotive jobs in the UK will soon profit from a new car maker in the country, especially since the company has brought out a new hybrid model.

Axon Automotive has unveiled their high tech vehicle at the recent Milton Keynes Science Festival.

The new hybrid is powered by an electric motor as well as a 500cc petrol engine which allows for bioethanol fuel.

The car is also made from recyclable carbonfibre which gives it durability without weighing it down.
 
The hybrid, which hasn’t been named yet, is similar looking to the Honda Insight but produces less CO2 emissions.

At 50g/km CO2 emissions, the Axon hybrid produces 39g/km less than the Toyota Prius and makes up half of the allowed amount before road tax apply.

Dr Steve Cousins, managing director at Axon commented: “By designing light cars and giving them good aerodynamics you can radically lower vehicle emissions.

“As a plug-in hybrid, we have no limitation on range but we can maximise the benefits of electrics day to day without the cost and weight of large batteries.”

Axon Automotive is supported by the UK Technology Strategy Board as well as private investors. Although full production will begin in 2012, the vehicle will be sold in the UK from 2011.

The new car will create jobs in manufacturing as well as in sales.
