People looking for
alternative energy jobs in the UK could have their search bolstered by a new nuclear operator that wants to create an energy plant in the country.
A consortium consisting of GDF Suez, Iberdrola SA and Scottish and Southern Energy has secured the option to buy land for the development of a new power station at Sellafield.
Energy and climate change secretary Ed Miliband said: "These latest plans, together with the ambition of existing plans from two other operators, mean that new nuclear could power the equivalent of all 26 million homes in the UK."
He added that the sale is further proof that the government is giving a helping hand to the energy sector and that the UK is heading towards a low carbon economy.
Ed Miliband recently said that conversion to clean energy would create thousands of
engineering and manufacturing jobs, and bring around £4billion a year into the UK economy.
