
Jobseekers in the north-east are to receive a £3.25 million boost thanks to a government funding scheme targeted at creating more
UK jobs in the region.
Labour's £1 billion Future Jobs Fund aims to create around 720 in Hartlepool over the next 18 month in the public, private and voluntary sectors.
Councillor Pamela Hargreaves, Hartlepool Council's cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, said: "It's vital for Hartlepool's economic future that we do everything we can to help people onto the jobs ladder particularly our young people - and to support firms which want to expand their workforce."
The councillor added that thanks to the funding the authorities have a chance to make a real difference to the current employment situation in the region.
Nissan has created around 350 new
engineering and manufacturing jobs and a further 4,000 jobs will be safeguarded when its Sunderland plant begins to make advanced lithium-ion batteries which are destined to help power its European electric cars.
