People looking for
north-west jobs could be lifted by the news that US firm SPX Corporation is going to create 160 new roles in Manchester.
The company has chosen the city as the base for its shared service centre which will service its European operations and cover HR, finance, payroll and other support services.
Manchester's Investment Agency (MIDAS) helped to broker the deal, alongside the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA), and SPX said that the high quality of the region's workforce was one reason they chose Manchester as a base.
Rachel Green, head of business development at MIDAS, who led the team working with SPX, said: "The arrival of the SPX SSC shows that Manchester is competing with and beating other major cities throughout Europe and indeed worldwide for such projects."
IT jobs in the
north-west have received a boost thanks to Network Rail's decision to use a contact centre in Rochdale to provide national technical helpdesk support for the organisation.
