One of the UK's biggest supermarkets is set to create around 10,000
retail jobs in the UK over the next two years after it had a successful 2009, winning awards and improving profit.
Sainsbury's will create the new roles after it recorded profits before tax that were up 18.5 per cent on last year with over 18.5 million customer transactions taking place every week at its stores.
David Tyler, chairman of the supermarket, said: "We have delivered a strong performance during the first half of the year. Sainsbury's is responding well to the current economic environment and it has significant opportunity for continued long-term growth."
He added that the company has managed to expand its convenience store network and pledged to create the new
UK jobs until 2011.
Sainsbury's has recently made a number of eco-friendly changes to one of its stores as it attempts to reduce its impact on the environment, according to the Gloucestershire Gazette.
