Retail jobs at Waitrose could gain from the company’s sales increase, which is reportedly a result of an advertising campaign by Marks & Spencer.
M&S recently ran an advertising campaign comparing their prices to that of Waitrose’s Essential items.
Products like Waitrose’s tea bags, penne and sausages were shown in the M&S advertisements with the strapline “Price checked against Waitrose Essentials. Quality checked by M&S”.
According to Retail Week, sales on Waitrose’s Essential line increased dramatically. Tea bags were up by 96pc and other items which were featured were also up by 40pc.
The entire Essential line has increase with 17pc by value and 24pc by volume during the seven days up to 7 November.
“Maybe we should be thanking the M&S marketing department for highlighting the quality and value of our range,” Waitrose commercial director, Richard Hodgson commented.
Sales on the company’s online business, WaitroseDeliver increased with 86pc year on year.
John Lewis, their sister department experienced a strong week with a 13.2pc increase in sales.
With such good news, jobs at Waitrose and John Lewis can look forward to more sales in the next few weeks leading up to Christmas.
