Safeguarding Berkshire jobs through legal battle

SUBMITTED DATE: 29/01/10

Berkshire jobs at a retail centre could be safeguarded through a legal battle.

According to the Bracknell News, Schyde Investments Ltd, owners of the Moss End Retail Village in Binfield applied for retrospective permission to house businesses in the building.

Unfortunately councillors from Bracknell Borough Council turned them down. As a result businesses in the retail village were told that their shops will have to close.

Schyde Investments, however, launched an appeal which is backed by businesses owners of these units.

Not only will jobs be lost if the businesses close down but Binfield will loose a contributing economy booster.

At the meeting Councillor Shelagh Pile supported the businesses and said: “We pride ourselves and boast about this council being a borough of opportunity.

We should remember that from small acorns grow large oak trees. We should prove to the people of Bracknell that we are without doubt the borough of opportunity.”

After the meeting, Tony Day, owner of Anton Day Smile Foundation charity in the retail village, told the newspaper that all they can do is wait for the appeal in May.

He added: “Our biggest concern is that the council does not accept the affect they are having. All the owners have done is chop the building up for small businesses.”
