New Surrey jobs could be created after development for Cranleigh’s health facilities has been approved by planners.
Additional health care is needed in Cranleigh due to new housing and the ageing population in the town.
According to Get Surrey, plans to build a new structure in Knowle Lane as well as revamping the current hospital were submitted by NHS Surrey, the county’s primary care trust (PCT).
The newspaper reported that five options were considered and Ernst and Young provided independent examination of each alternative.
The preferred choice comprises a two-phase development that includes a new construction on Knowle Lane as well as a revamp of the High Street sites.
A recent report on the Cranleigh project said: “Given this economic environment, the ability to break the High Street options into individual phased projects allows greater planning and resourcing flexibility, thereby reducing the need for long-term funding commitments.”
The Crainleigh project is priced at £19.75m but NHS Surrey has only £4m for the project and will need to provide extra funding.
Although a definite decision about the Cranleigh project is still to be made, health and nursing jobs will benefit from the venture in the end.
