Surrey jobs in construction in the Caterham area could benefit from plans to develop a dilapidated adult education centre into 72 homes.
According to This is Surrey Today, developer London and Quadrant Housing Trust plan to convert the rundown Caterham Valley Adult Education Centre into affordable housing.
The developing group will shortly exhibit their plans to the public.
A spokesperson for the developer commented to the newspaper that they want to assure residents that thorough research has been done. They also believe that the development will help with the problem of affordable housing.
Although more housing is needed in the area and jobs will be created from the endeavour, residents aren’t too happy at all.
Locals feel that the new homes will complicate an already problematic parking situation and it might also limit school places in the area.
Peter Longhurst, a resident near the proposed development told the newspaper: “People will be outraged by this. I can't think of one person who might welcome it.
“It's one of the oldest public buildings in Caterham, and one of the most recognisable.
“I just can't do the maths. There used to be monumental problems with parking when the education centre was previously open, so this will only make things worse.”
