A supermarket giant has given a helping hand to people looking for
finance jobs in the UK after it announced it is going to recruit 1,000 staff for a new sales and service centre in the north-east.
Tesco said it is planning to recruit the new workers early in 2010 for the new facility which is to be based in Newcastle, the former heartland of troubled lender Northern Rock.
Benny Higgins, chief executive of Tesco Bank, said: "Newcastle is the ideal home for our new insurance customer service centre. The north-east of England has strong experience in customer services and the financial sector, with a well-qualified and enthusiastic workforce."
He added that the city is a good fit for the business as it will continue to develop over the next few years and Tesco will also pump more money into the region.
Tesco has recently been creating more
retail jobs in Yorkshire with the expansion of its Barton-upon-Humber store which will add 50 more roles, according to the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
