Berkshire jobs and residents can gain from improvements to certain areas in Windsor.
Improvements include a makeover for Peascod Street and a possible welcome archway in St Leonards Road, the Maidenhead Advertiser reported.
The upper part of Peascod Street will get new paving stones in a £30-50,000 project that will take two months to complete and will start on 11 January 2010.
Peascod Street is known as the town’s main shopping road and retailers, residents and councillors have already expressed their unhappiness about its condition.
Councillor Eileen Quick commented to the newspaper that she has pushed for the project to be approved for quite some time.
“It is in very poor condition at the moment and there are trip hazards, and we do not want people having accidents in the street,” she said.
A welcome archway was suggested by residents who feel that the area in St Leonards Road is currently “cut off” from the rest of Windsor.
The structure could cost between £17,000 and £20,000 but will provide information about the town and shops as well.
The welcome arch will be suggested to council chiefs for approval.
Improvements to Windsor’s streets could lead to the increase of jobs and business in the area.
